SEO Courses Learning Tips
Free courses always come with a catch. You’re either being sold a product, a service, or positioning in the market/industry – all of which are perfectly fine. But nothing is truly free.
Read the advice in the courses but don’t take them as gospel, experiment with the advice and try it out for yourself on your own website and test what works best and what doesn’t. Also, understand that what works for one niche might not work the same for another.
If a course is not educating you about things like – how search engines work (crawl, render and index), user intent, etc. Please don’t waste much of your time there. If they tell you to filter out your keywords based on high search volume only, please stay away from them.
Practice makes perfect, even once you have taken the course the best thing you can do is put it into action and be prepared to fail, tweak things and try again. Even the best SEO’s don’t always get things right first time
Apply critical thinking – look the rational behind certain recommendations, question anything that is “guaranteed” and remember that there are rarely absolutes in SEO.
Practice it on your own site. Plus if you can, get a teacher. We learn when we can also ask questions and get the answers about what we are reading and implementing. Once we leave full time education it is more difficult to get the answers to the questions on real life examples.
Perhaps you could recruit some seasoned folks in the community to help with restricted and limited-time Slack channels for learners to ask questions. No single bit of advice will be enough, but having someone they can @ for a short time could be really beneficial.
1) Stay curious and keep asking questions. Find communities where you can discuss and debate learnings. 2) Nothing beats practical learning. You can develop your own site, or you can also help a friend’s site or find an internship/junior role to start testing things in real life.
Do all the courses but be very discerning. don’t take anything at face value. test and approve the things you’re learning and keep an open mind!
Nothing you learn from course matter till you put it into practice and that is when the real learning begins.
SEO Courses FAQs
What Order should I follow when Taking the Online SEO Courses?
Start with the SEO fundamentals and continue with the area, whether technical, content, or link building, that is more attractive and relevant to your professional goals.
Is it too difficult to learn SEO on my own? Is it doable?
It’s doable as long as you are disciplined and willing to invest your time also testing what you learn, ideally on your own site. If you can, have a mentor who can clarify doubts when they arise and be proactive to use other resources on this site when to complement and validate what you learn, especially when there are what could be seen as contradictions in the information you get.
Should I follow every piece of advice provided in the SEO Courses?
Remember that there are many ways to solve issues and challenges in SEO and their level of importance depends on the context, so it’s fundamental that you apply what you learn based on your own scenario, while understanding the concepts and prioritizing based on your own goals. What could seem like a contradiction might be just a difference in context.
Should I have access to a tool when learning SEO through these courses?
No, the only SEO tool that it’s a must-have to learn and do SEO is your own brain. Everything else will be an add-on to learn and accelerate the analysis and implementation of what you learn. Also, there are fantastic free tools listed here you can start using if you have minimal or no budget.
